Alpha Delta was founded on August 4, 2007, but by the end of the first stages, the fraternity would have 22 founders from three different all-male chapters of Alpha Phi Omega (University of Maine, Drexel University, Duquesne University). The fraternity also holds to the values prescribed by Alpha Phi Omega founder and first national president Frank Reed Horton upon the creation of Alpha Phi Omega and therefore claims him as spiritual founder. The second national president H. Roe Bartle is also claimed as a spiritual founder. Alpha Delta was founded to uphold a standard of manhood set by the founders that would withstand the test of time. They ensure that although Alpha Delta is not a service fraternity for logistical reasons, the sole purpose of Alpha Delta is to provide service to mankind in four areas: to the brotherhood, to the university, to the community, and to the nation. Starting at the Alpha Phi Omega National Convention in 2006, on December 29, numerous all-male chapters of the fraternity gathered together, feeling alienated and isolated, to discuss the option of creating a new direction that would protect the truest intentions of founder Frank Reed Horton by continuing to spread his principles and standard of manhood. This new direction culminated in the formation of a new national fraternity due to an ideological split between the all-male chapters and the national fraternity. The new fraternity would continue to hold community service at the highest of its ideals, but also preserve their respective chapters rich all-male heritage. The Nu Mu Chapter of Alpha Delta (formerly of Alpha Phi Omega) was started in 1961. Since then the chapter has had a strong program of service along with many various social events. The Nu Mu Alumni base is large and full of great men and leaders in their communities. *As allowed under the Title IX exemption for social fraternities and sororities, this organization may limit membership to a single gender*
