Hello everyone!

We hope you're all having a lovely holiday and a restful break. We're looking forward to seeing everyone again in January, so we're excited to announce that our first meeting will be on Tuesday, January 20, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Just like last semester, we'll meet every two weeks at the same time in KAML 116, down the hallway past the University Honors lounge.

At our final meeting last semester, we held a vote to decide which book we'd start with in the spring. The winner was The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler! It's broken into four parts, and we decided to read the first part before our first meeting (January 20). In my copy, part one ends on page 103. As always, everyone is welcome to come to any meeting, regardless of how much or how little of the book you've read.

Additionally, if anyone has trouble accessing a copy of the book, please let us know. While we don't have enough funds to purchase a copy for everyone, we have some grant money available to buy books for the club. We're also happy to help search for library copies! Here's a quick list of places you can locate the book:
* Request it through the U of M library system: option 1 and option 2
* Borrow it from the Duluth Public Library
Buy it on ThriftBooks
* Search Libby! Both UMD's library and the Duluth Public Library provide access to Libby, which is a great way to borrow ebooks and audiobooks online

Happy holidays everyone! We're excited to read and discuss with you all in the new year. Please reach out with any questions--or any suggestions for activities, snacks, etc. that you'd like to see at book club in Spring 2026.

Warmly,
Nicole and Mia
